OUR HISTORY
A Story of God’s Faithfulness in Northern Madison County
For more than 150 years, God has been writing the story of Summitville Wesleyan Bible Church.
Our church began in 1874 when a small group of believers gathered in a log cabin on the north side of Summitville. What started with just forty people quickly grew into a church family committed to sharing the hope of Jesus with their community.
Throughout the decades, the story of our church has been one of faith, perseverance, and God's unmistakable provision. There were seasons when the future seemed uncertain, but time and again God answered the prayers of faithful people who refused to give up. He brought spiritual renewal, raised up pastors and leaders, and continued to draw people to Himself.
Our congregation has always believed that the church exists to serve more than itself. From Vacation Bible School and children's ministries to missions, community outreach, youth programs, and caring for families, each generation has found new ways to share Christ's love both here at home and around the world.
As our church family grew, God provided opportunities to grow as well. In the early 1990s, after much prayer, the congregation purchased the property where we worship today. Countless volunteers worked side by side to build the church, with men, women, and even children contributing their time and talents. It was a beautiful reminder that God builds His church through people who are willing to serve together.
Today, that same spirit continues. We remain committed to being a church that loves God, loves people, and serves our community. Whether through local outreach, missions, partnerships with other churches in Summitville, or simply caring for our neighbors, our desire is the same as it has always been—to faithfully point people to Jesus.
More than 150 years have passed since that first gathering in a log cabin, but our mission has never changed. We are grateful for God's faithfulness in every generation, and we're excited to see what He will do in the years ahead.
